Tokoto has played the 2020/21 season in Tel Aviv and has averaged 13.6 PPG for the Reds and has become a big focus point for them offensively in the Israel Basketball Premier League. It was also announced that they re-signed former 1st Round NBA Draft Pick, James Young.

“Glad that in the hardships of this season we were able to take care of both the present and the future of Hapoel Tel Aviv. The players who finished the season with us, have made a wonderful journey in the last two months, bringing us a system to a situation where two very high quality players can help us take care of a better future to play. Thank you to the club for making this effort.”

Head Coach Danny Franco on the re-signings.

Tokoto was injured in the rivalry game in January against Maccabi Fox Tel Aviv and was out of action for a while, but since returning he has played an important role for Hapoel Tel Aviv, having game-highs near the end of the season of 21 points, twice.

Since his time at UNC from 2012 to 2015, Tokoto declared for the NBA Draft in 2015. He was picked up by the Philadephia 76ers, but waived before the season started and then spent some seasons in the NBA G-League. For the past four seasons, Tokoto has played overseas with time in Australia, Spain and Israel.

Tokoto is playing for his third team in Israel and will be hoping that Hapoel Tel Aviv will improve on their 12-17 record this past season.

Seth Trimble, JP Tokoto’s younger brother, was recently offered a scholarship offer from the University of North Carolina.
